A friend of Jesus died. By the time Jesus arrived, His friend had already been dead for four days, enough time for decay to have already begun its work and the smell of death to fill the tomb,

So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days (John 11.17). 

Nevertheless, by the spoken word, Jesus raised His friend Lazarus from the dead, because death cannot stop the Lord from doing whatever He wants to do. A body dead four days is nothing to Him. Thousands of years of death cannot prevent Him from performing the great resurrection of the last day. Be sure you have so lived your life, that you will be resurrected to eternal life.
