Do not read over the words of the crucifixion quickly

There are times to read over Scripture quickly because we are looking for something, but be sure that you give time to read all Scripture methodically, meditatively, and moderately. For example, we might be tempted to read over the following words quickly, hence without imagination, understanding, or appreciation,

Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. Then they took Jesus and led Him away (John 19.16).

Whom did they lead to crucifixion? Jesus. Who is Jesus? He is the Son of God and our Creator.

They led Him to do what? To crucify Him! What is or was crucifixion? The Romans nailed a man through his hands and his feet to timbers shaped like a “t” and let him hand there till he died.

Is that something to read over quickly, without thought, or appreciation? John 19.16 may have two short sentences, but they speak as loud as the heavens and the Earth that Jesus created.
