I have asked Bible classes, What was the Day of Pentecost? And I usually get the answer that it was the day the church started and Peter preached to the Jews. True, those things did happen on a particular Day of Pentecost,

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place (Acts 2.1).

However, the Jews had observed the Day of Pentecost for centuries before the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles and Peter preached that magnificent sermon. The Day of Pentecost commemorated the giving of the Law on Mount Sinai. Appropriately, the Lord gave a new Law on that feast day, as the Jews observed it on Mount Zion.
