Finish what you start, fulfill your promises

09.16.2015 New Testament: 2Co 8.10–11

To read the Bible in a year, read Second Corinthians 8 on September 16, In the year of our Lord 2015

We get a great idea and we begin it with zeal, but then time moves on and the zeal dies down, and we fail to finish what we started. The Corinthian Christians started with a good work, but a year later they may have lacked their initial zeal,

And in this I give advice: It is to your advantage not only to be doing what you began and were desiring to do a year ago; but now you also must complete the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to desire it, so there also may be a completion out of what you have (2 Corinthians 8.10–11).

They wanted to help their poor brethren in Jerusalem, but the memory of Paul’s report faded as they got on with life.

Listen! If you begin a project, finish it. If you make a promise, keep it.
