Galatians Bible Background

09.23.2015 New Testament: Gal 1.13–14

To read the Bible in a year, read Galatians 1 on September 23, In the year of our Lord 2015

By Don Ruhl

John the Baptist had told people that they should bear fruit worthy of repentance, meaning that they should show that they had changed their lives. As Paul explained to the churches of Galatia, that he did not come up with the Gospel, but he received it from the Lord, he proved his point by reminding them of his former manner of life, that it was not conducive to dreaming up the Gospel message, but he was contrary to it,

For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers (Galatians 1.13–14).

Why would a man of that mind suddenly come up with a teaching that supports what he tried to destroy?

However, Paul did not remain a persecutor of the church, but the world’s greatest promoter of it. His life showed fruit worthy of repentance.

Can people tell that you have changed since believing on Jesus?
