Jesus placed apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers in His congregation with a purpose. Here it is,

…for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ… (Ephesians 4.12). 

He wants those five positions of leadership to:

• Equip the saints for the work of ministry
• Edify the body of Christ

If you lead in the church, are you helping your fellow-members to become those things? If you are a member of the church, have you engaged yourself in ministry and in receiving instruction that you might be built up?
