Paul reminded the Ephesian Christians that they were once darkness, but then they became children of light in the Lord. Therefore, they were not to have fellowship with the works of darkness, but to live in the light. He encouraged them,

Therefore He says:
“Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”
(Ephesians 5.14) 

Remember the zeal you had when you first left the darkness because you saw the light of the Lord; now wake up and repeat that zeal.
