The Lord sees what false prophets do. He knows of their falsehood, and He will not let them get away with it,

“Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets:
‘Behold, I will feed them with wormwood,
And make them drink the water of gall;
For from the prophets of Jerusalem
Profaneness has gone out into all the land.’”
(Jeremiah 23.15) 

Not only will the Lord not let them get away with leading people astray with falsehood, but He will make them suffer. How many false prophets keep saying that they know the day when the Lord shall return? There are many, but even as everyone has been wrong in the past, so shall the ones today be wrong.
