How many sacrifices did the Lord order from the time of Adam to the day that Christ Jesus died? Only the Lord knows the number. There was nothing sinful about those sacrifices, because it was all of the Lord. Yet, by those many sacrifices He taught the world something, that animals, regardless of their perfection, could not sanctify man.
Therefore, the God of heaven sent the word of God who became flesh and died for us, taking the place of all those animals, and finally we found what we needed,
For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified (Hebrews 10.14).
The one sacrifice of the Son of God perfected us forever so that He does not have to keep offering Himself over and over again. Praise the Lord that in Jesus we can find our sanctification, our holiness.
