We live in hope that one day we shall see Him whom our souls love, but this is no casual thing. He is a holy God and so we must be holy,

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord… (Hebrews 12.14). 

The Lord wants us to love one another. Therefore, He wants the people living with Him in heaven who pursue peace, which is one way we show love for others. Also, holiness is so important to Him, that He sent Jesus to die on the cross that we might have the forgiveness of sin, leading to our holiness, qualifying us to see the Lord.
