Seven represents perfection in the Scriptures, but a friend of mine pointed out that eight represents a new beginning. Seven completes something, and the next number either starts the count over or begins something new. Therefore, notice the number of steps in the vision that God gave Ezekiel of a new temple,

Then he brought me to the north gateway and measured it according to these same measurements—also its gate chambers, its gateposts, and its archways. It had windows all around; its length was fifty cubits and its width twenty-five cubits. Its gateposts faced the outer court, palm trees were on its gateposts on this side and on that side, and going up to it were eight steps (Ezekiel 40.35–37).

As the Lord pictured the inner court for the prophet, He also showed Ezekiel that eight steps went up into it. Nothing about the measurements in this temple are insignificant. The Lord showed the prophet that even the number of steps have significance.
