12.13.2015 Old Testament: Joel 2.3–5
To read the Bible in a year, read The Book of Joel on December 13, In the year of our Lord 2015
By Don Ruhl
Israel refused to repent of her sin. Therefore, the Lord would send an army against Israel, covering the land like locust, devouring everything before them, and leaving the land a waste behind them,
A fire devours before them,
And behind them a flame burns;
The land is like the Garden of Eden before them,
And behind them a desolate wilderness;
Surely nothing shall escape them.
Their appearance is like the appearance of horses;
And like swift steeds, so they run.
With a noise like chariots
Over mountaintops they leap,
Like the noise of a flaming fire that devours the stubble,
Like a strong people set in battle array.
(Joel 2.3–5)
The Lord has done this over and over again, not only with Israel, but with any nation that has refused to repent.
