To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 2 on January 2, In the year of our Lord 2016

We think of Jesus during His ministry walking all over the land of Israel. We know that He grew up on Nazareth, but do you realize that He spent some time in Egypt?
Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.” When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son” (Matthew 2.13–15).
Do you think of Jesus living in Egypt? Where did He live down there? How long was He there? Even the prophet spoke of the brief time the Messiah would spend in Egypt.
Why did Joseph take his young son and his mother to Egypt? A king sought the life of the baby Jesus! Dark were those times! Yet, Jesus made it through those times and eventually made it to the cross, another dark time, truly the darkest day in history, only to come from the grave and now lives forever, and He seeks us that we might be where He is.
