01.09.2016 New Testament: Matt 8.14–15
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 8 on January 9, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
Peter followed the Lord, which meant following the Lord right into Peter’s own home, where Jesus found Peter’s mother-in-law very ill,
Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them (Matthew 8.14–15).
- Peter had a home, although an evangelist, preacher, and apostle.
- Peter had a wife, disqualifying him from serving as the first pope.
- Peter housed his mother-in-law, showing his belief in family.
- Peter helped his mother-in-law, although she was ill.
- Jesus healed her with a mere touch, showing that He holds the power of life and death.
She served everyone, no doubt showing her gratefulness toward all.
That’s a good mother-in-law for ya. My daughter-in-law gave me a KJV bible for Christmas. My other three women’s bible were about to fall apart and they were NIV’s. My huge family bible that I inherited from Papaw is KJV, of which I don’t mark in. It is about 56 plus years old and beautiful. Guess what she wrote in it. “To my Real Mother” I cried. I love knowing that Jesus can heal with just a touch. this was my scripture reading for the day. Amazing!
