01.11.2016 Old Testament: Gen 27.27–29
To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 27–28 on January 11, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
Isaac did not realize that he blessed Jacob rather than Esau, whom Isaac intended on blessing; nevertheless, the blessing stayed with Jacob, for in time he would be the man that God wanted him to be,
And he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him and said:
“Surely, the smell of my son
Is like the smell of a field
Which the Lord has blessed.
Therefore may God give you
Of the dew of heaven,
Of the fatness of the earth,
And plenty of grain and wine.
Let peoples serve you,
And nations bow down to you.
Be master over your brethren,
And let your mother’s sons bow down to you.
Cursed be everyone who curses you,
And blessed be those who bless you!”
(Genesis 27.27–29)
Even as Isaac blessed, so it happened. Isaac may have blessed the wrong son in his mind, but history shows that he blessed the right son. Has God blessed you? Will your history show that you were worthy of that blessing?
