02.01.2016 Old Testament: Exo 28.22–25
To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 27–28 on February 1, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
When the priest entered the Tabernacle, the Lord wanted him to show forth glory and beauty, and you can see it in the breastplate he wore, including the chains of the breastplate,
“You shall make chains for the breastplate at the end, like braided cords of pure gold. And you shall make two rings of gold for the breastplate, and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate. Then you shall put the two braided chains of gold in the two rings which are on the ends of the breastplate; and the other two ends of the two braided chains you shall fasten to the two settings, and put them on the shoulder straps of the ephod in the front” (Exodus 28.22–25).
The priest knew that he wore something beautiful and glorious for our Lord, not only because the priest put it on, but the colors of it, including the gold chain, and the weight would remind him of what he had attached to his chest.
Yet, I would guess that not one priest ever complained of wearing it, but considered it an honor as he represented the children of Israel when he went into the Tabernacle, because the golden breastplate also had twelve stones set in it, representing the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jesus is our High Priest, and He represents us as our Priest, for that is what a priest does. We are close to His heart and He is not ashamed to call us His brethren.
