02.26.2016 New Testament: Mark 6.49–50
To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 6.33–56 on February 26, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
The disciples saw Jesus do something that they had never seen before. He did great and marvelous miracles, but He did them on someone else. Then one evening, He Himself was the object of the miracle,
And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid” (Mark 6.49–50).
They saw Jesus walking on the water during a storm, which meant that He walked up the waves and down the other side to the next wave! What would you think, if you had seen something of that magnitude? The disciples thought they saw a ghost, for people do not walk on the water in such a manner…ever!
Then He gently calms their fears, letting them know that they could be of good cheer, because they knew Him!
Questions:
- Do you know that Jesus is with you during your fears?
- Do you remember to pray to the Father during times of distress?
