02.27.2016 New Testament: Mark 7.1
To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 7.1–13 on February 27, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
The scribes and Pharisees did not ignore Jesus, but they went to Him. Surely they went with different motives: some to hear what He had to say, others to trip Him up in His words, and so on. However, for the most part, they criticized Him, leading to their desire to kill Him. Mark noted once just before the Pharisees found something wrong with His disciples,
Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem (Mark 7.1).
Therefore, do not conclude that because many people go to hear Jesus or go to hear a church speak of Jesus, that they all go for the right reasons. Church growth is more than just many people going to a church.
Questions:
- Why do you listen to Jesus?
- Why do you read the Scriptures?
- What do you hope to find or to hear?
- Why do you go to the church where you go?
