Following Jesus is no easy task. It will require everything of you. Are you prepared to go that far? Jesus once illustrated the need for proper preparation, saying,
“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’” (Luke 14.28–30).
If you were to build a tower, you would do just as Jesus said. You would count the cost to see whether you could currently do it. If not, you would hold off until you had what you needed. So it is with following the Lord Jesus Christ. We are not talking about “going to church,” once a week. No, it goes far beyond church services, but includes it.
Questions:
- Does anything hold you back from a full-fledged life of a disciple of Christ?
- If so, what are you doing about the problem?
