By Don Ruhl
Saul’s jealousy of David made the king seek the death of the younger David, feeling threatened by his successes, but David’s only thought was to honor the king. Saul’s rage blinded him to the good man that served him. Thus, David had to flee from Saul, but where would David go?
So David fled and escaped, and went to Samuel at Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and stayed in Naioth (1 Samuel 19.18).
Samuel loved the Lord. David loved the Lord. Saul rebelled against the Lord. Therefore, David naturally fled from Saul and ran to Samuel, for he had originally anointed David, and in Samuel, David would find a true friend, who understood the ways of the Lord.
Questions:
- Do you have a Samuel in your life?
- Are you a Samuel to someone else?
- How can you strengthen a friend in the Lord?
