David saw the good in King Saul

2 Samuel Bible Background

To read the Bible in a year, read Second Samuel 1–3 on April 21, In the year of our Lord 2016

By Don Ruhl

When David learned of the death of the king of Israel, David lamented deeply for him, saying in part,

“O daughters of Israel, weep over Saul,
Who clothed you in scarlet, with luxury;
Who put ornaments of gold on your apparel.”
(2 Samuel 1.24)

Saul tried to kill David numerous times, yet, Saul had been king of Israel, king over God’s people. Therefore, David only saw Saul as the anointed of the Lord. May the Lord give us all the heart of David that we might be careful what we say about leaders.
