Jesus makes the great confession

Luke Bible Background

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 22.54–71 on May 1, In the year of our Lord 2016

By Don Ruhl

The Jewish leaders asked Jesus if He was the Christ. He said that if He told them, they would not believe, and if He asked them, they would not answer Him. Then He said,

“Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God” (Luke 22.69).

They understood that properly, that Jesus had just confessed that He was the Son of God, and that persuaded them to send Him to the Romans for crucifixion.

Yes, He said, He would sit on the right hand of the power of God. He may have appeared as a man to them, but He would sit in a place rightly reserved only for the Son of God, that is, the right hand of the power of God.
