You walk out to the town well to get some water. At the well, you see a man, who asks you for a drink of water. You have never seen him before. As the two of you talk, it quickly takes a spiritual turn, and you discover that this man knows all about your life.

A woman had a conversation like that with Jesus,

The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly” (John 4.17–18).

What would you think if you had a conversation like that with a stranger? Obviously, this stranger has some kind of connection with God, or had the ability to know things. You might even want to get to know him some more.

Questions:

  • How much of your life does Jesus know?
  • How does that affect you?
