07.01.2016 New Testament: Acts 10.13–16
To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 10.1–23 on July 1, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
The Lord showed Peter all kinds of animals on a great sheet that the Lord had let down from heaven. Then this exchange occurred,
And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again (Acts 10.13–16).
God had made a decree, but Peter would not accept it. Perhaps Peter thought God tested him and Peter determined to remain loyal to the dietary restrictions of the Law of Moses. Nevertheless, the voice continued to tell Peter what to do and that he could not contradict God.
Questions:
- Have you ever contradicted God?
- Why?
- Did you later see that God spoke the truth?
