07.24.2016 – Old Testament: Psa 42.6–8
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 41–43 on July 24, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
When you are down, discouraged, or depressed and do not know why, read Psalm 42, for you will discover that the sons of Korah who wrote this psalm also experienced the same, and you can see what they did about it,
O my God, my soul is cast down within me;
Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan,
And from the heights of Hermon,
From the Hill Mizar.
Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls;
All Your waves and billows have gone over me.
The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime,
And in the night His song shall be with me—
A prayer to the God of my life.
(Psalm 42.6–8)
In verse 5, the sons of Korah had written of not knowing why they were cast down. So here, starting at verse 6, they turn to God, which its the thing to do. They knew that the answer to recovering the soul was found in God. Therefore, they declared that they would pray to the God of their lives.
Questions:
- Is the God of the Bible the God of your life?
- How often do you speak to Him?
- What do you do when your soul is cast down?
