Yahweh God promised to the Lord of David, meaning the Christ, that He would reign until His enemies were made His footstool, and then the Bible says,

The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion.
Rule in the midst of Your enemies!
(Psalm 110.2) 

And so it is. Jesus the Christ reigns as King right now, even here on the Earth, and His enemies are all around. Eventually they will have to deal with the rod of His strength that comes out of Zion, or out of the church, and then they shall lose.
