08.23.2016 Old Testament: Psa 119.113–120
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalm 119.105–176 on August 23, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
Some people say they love the Law of the Lord, but live as though they hate it. Others speak well of it in one instance, then curse it in another. However, the psalmist determined not to be that way,
I hate the double-minded,
But I love Your law.
You are my hiding place and my shield;
I hope in Your word.
Depart from me, you evildoers,
For I will keep the commandments of my God!
Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live;
And do not let me be ashamed of my hope.
Hold me up, and I shall be safe,
And I shall observe Your statutes continually.
You reject all those who stray from Your statutes,
For their deceit is falsehood.
You put away all the wicked of the earth like dross;
Therefore I love Your testimonies.
My flesh trembles for fear of You,
And I am afraid of Your judgments.
(Psalm 119.113–120)
Double-minded people cause problems, but those who love the Law of the Lord are single-minded and they bring peace, because they understand that the Lord is their hiding place and shield. Thus, they hope in His word.
The wicked fight the lovers of the Law of the Lord, but the lovers of the Law of the Lord seek His help against the wicked, and He hears them because they tremble at His presence.
