09.01.2016 – Old Testament: Psa 149.6b–9a
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 148–150 on September 1, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
After declaring that the saints of God be joyful in glory, singing aloud on their beds, and letting the high praises of God be in their mouths, the psalmist said,
And a two-edged sword in their hand,
To execute vengeance on the nations,
And punishments on the peoples;
To bind their kings with chains,
And their nobles with fetters of iron;
To execute on them the written judgment—
This honor have all His saints.
(Psalm 149.6b–9a)
Now as disciples of Christ, since our weapons are not carnal, we use the Sword of the Spirit, which is the written word of God. By that word, we let the world know of its condemnation, and that they are headed for judgment, but we also let them know that they can escape such an end through the Lord Jesus Christ and His death on the cross, for there He bore our judgment and if we believe in Him, repent of our sins, and begin our new lives in the waters of baptism, He will forgive us of our sins and keep us from condemnation.
Questions:
- Do you ever tell others what the Bible says?
- Do you know how to do it?
- Have you prayed about it?
