09.17.2016 – Old Testament: Ecc 1.9–11
To read the Bible in a year, read Ecclesiastes 1–3 on September 17, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
Do you want to know what shall happen in the future? Look to the past, because history repeats itself, but we think that it does not because we forget what happened in the past, as Solomon wrote,
That which has been is what will be,
That which is done is what will be done,
And there is nothing new under the sun.
Is there anything of which it may be said,
“See, this is new”?
It has already been in ancient times before us.
There is no remembrance of former things,
Nor will there be any remembrance of things that are to come
By those who will come after.
(Ecclesiastes 1.9–11)
These things are so, because people are people regardless of language, location, nation, or history. That causes the same things to happen over and over. Therefore, do not put your hope in tomorrow, but put your hope in the one who holds tomorrow in His hand!
