Wish for the Lord’s mercy upon those who help you

When you give yourself to the Lord’s work, giving up many things that others enjoy, it is nice to know that some appreciate your work, even as Paul said of one man and his family,

The Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain; but when he arrived in Rome, he sought me out very zealously and found me (2 Timothy 1.16–17).

This man did three things that impressed Paul:

  1. He often refreshed Paul.
  2. He was not ashamed of Paul’s chain.
  3. He sought Paul zealously.

Have you been the recipient of someone like Onesiphorus? Speak of the Lord’s mercy upon that person, and tell others why you wish for the Lord’s mercy upon that person.

Questions:

  • In what ways did someone help you?
  • Have you thanked the Lord for that person?
