12.31.2016 – Old Testament: Mal 2.7–9
To read the Bible in a year, read Malachi on December 31, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
We think of the Levitical priests as performing sacrifices, but they did much more, including teaching Israel,
“For the lips of a priest should keep knowledge,
And people should seek the law from his mouth;
For he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
But you have departed from the way;
You have caused many to stumble at the law.
You have corrupted the covenant of Levi,”
Says the LORD of hosts.
“Therefore I also have made you contemptible and base
Before all the people,
Because you have not kept My ways
But have shown partiality in the law.”
(Malachi 2.7–9)
The Lord wanted the priests to teach Israel, but when the priests failed at their jobs, they suffered for it and so did Israel.
The New Testament teaches in First Peter 2, that all Christians are priests. We all have a responsibility to teach. Not everyone can teach publicly, but everyone can find little ways to teach others. Pray for the opportunities to do so.
Questions:
- Is there enough of the word in you that it has to come out your mouth?
- Do you have a good idea of what the Bible says?
