To read the Bible in a year, read First Samuel 17–18 on April 15, In the year of our Lord 2017

David’s life, like ours, covered many experiences. We know him as a king, warrior, and poet, but think of what led him to a contest that made him great,
Then Jesse said to his son David, “Take now for your brothers an ephah of this dried grain and these ten loaves, and run to your brothers at the camp. And carry these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers fare, and bring back news of them.” Now Saul and they and all the men of Israel were in the Valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines (1 Samuel 17.17–19).
Jesse sent his son David to the three older brothers who were fighting the Philistines. Jesse sent David that he might take them dried grain, bread, and that he might give their captain some cheese.
David arrives and he sees and hears Goliath defying the armies of Israel. You know the rest of the story. The Bible does not show David transporting food anymore.
