Saul ordered the deaths of all the priests in the city of Nob, but one managed to escape and made it to David. David knew that this priest had lost all his family because David had visited that city and the priests helped him, as he fled from Saul, although the priests did not know that David fled from Saul. Listen to what David said to the priest who escaped,
Now one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David. And Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the Lord’s priests. So David said to Abiathar, “I knew that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have caused the death of all the persons of your father’s house. Stay with me; do not fear. For he who seeks my life seeks your life, but with me you shall be safe” (1 Samuel 22.20–23).
It broke David’s heart that the priests had died, because he believed he was partly to blame. However, he reassured Abiathar, the escaping priest, that he would find safety with David, because the one who sought David’s life also sought the life of the priest, and David would do everything to protect himself and this priest.
Jesus is our David and the devil desires to see Jesus and all His followers destroyed. Therefore, stay with Jesus and find safety.
