05.01.2017 – New Testament: Luke 22.70–71
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 22.54–71 on May 1, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
The Jewish leaders did whatever they could to find evidence for condemning Jesus. They even used false witnesses, but those false witnesses did not think ahead of time about making sure their testimony agreed. Therefore, the leaders gave up on witnesses. Then they all fired off a question to Jesus that He could not deny,
Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.” And they said, “What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth” (Luke 22.70–71).
With what they believed, they saw His self-condemnation with His confession, and they decided that they no longer needed witnesses. They had enough to prove their preconceived idea that He was a fraud, which made Him worthy of death in their eyes.
Questions:
- What do you believe about Jesus?
- If you believe that He is the Son of God, why or how did you come to that conclusion?
