God listens to you when you do what is right

Psalms Bible Background

07.11.2017 Old Testament: Psa 5.4–6

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 4–6 on July 11, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

David pled for God to listen, knowing that He is our only reliable help,

For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness,
Nor shall evil dwell with You.
The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;
You hate all workers of iniquity.
You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;
The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
(Psa 5.4–6)

People expect things out of or from God, but many people do not understand His nature, that He abhors evil. If we have no intention of fleeing our wickedness, we cannot expect Him to hear us.

Yes, we want to pray to Him about things, but He expects things from us also. If we think He will do whatever we ask while we continue living in sin, we show a horrible misunderstanding of who He is and of what He is about.
