How can we show just how horrible sin is? By thinking of what it used to get us to sin,

And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me (Romans 7.10–11). 

God gave the commandment to bring us life, but the commandment gave life by forbidding what would take away life. Therefore, when we did what it forbid, it brought death. Sin used what God intended to bless us as a way to hurt us.
