The Corinthian Church shocked Paul when he learned that one of its members was doing something that would even shock the world,

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife! (1 Corinthians 5.1). 

Sometimes the world shows up in the church, and sometimes the church does worse things than the world does! It is as though those Christians have completely forgotten the teachings of Jesus, and think that they are free to do whatever they please.
