To read the Bible in a year, read First Corinthians 7.25–40 on August 26, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
First Corinthians 7 discusses marriage in various situations, but it also addresses remaining single. In fact, Paul places a high value on staying single, but then he also said,
But if any man thinks he is behaving improperly toward his virgin, if she is past the flower of youth, and thus it must be, let him do what he wishes. He does not sin; let them marry (1 Corinthians 7.36).
A Christian might get the idea that marriage is bad, especially during times of persecution. However, he revealed also that getting married is not wrong; it is not even foolish. Therefore, if a man wants his virgin daughter to marry, her father did nothing wrong in letting her.
