Do not wound the conscience of a weak Christian

1 Corinthians Bible Background

08.27.2017 – New Testament: 1Co 8.12

To read the Bible in a year, read First Corinthians 8 on August 27, In the year of our Lord 2017

Sometimes Christians get it stuck in their heads that they have the freedom to do whatever they want in Christ, that they forget how it affects others, especially weaker Christians and the stronger Christians end up sinning against the weaker ones, moving Paul to say,

But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ (1 Corinthians 8.12).

Yes, that is correct, if we sin against our weaker brethren, we sin against Christ. No one wants to sin against Christ. Use your freedom in Christ, but do not make your brethren weaker in the process.

Questions:

  • Has an older, stronger Christian caused you to stumble before?
  • Have you caused someone to stumble?
