10.06.2017 – Old Testament: Isa 36.4
To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 34–36 on October 6, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
Assyria conquered all the cities of Judah, except for Jerusalem. As the Assyrian king prepared to attack the city, he sent his representative to speak to the Jews. Notice his question,
Then the Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: ‘What confidence is this in which you trust?’” (Isaiah 36.4).
Hezekiah trusted in the Lord God of Israel. The king of Assyria thought that was ridiculous, but you will find out later in the reading whether the Assyrians managed to conquer Jerusalem.
His question though is a good one for the leaders of all nations. Truly, it is good for all of us. May we all have the faith and the courage to say that we have confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ and in Him we trust.
Questions:
- What is your confidence?
- For what do you live?
