Receiving the message of the Scriptures is not always easy because some of your family and friends might persecute you for so doing. However, if that happens, look at the company you keep,

And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit… (1 Thessalonians 1.6). 

The first century Christians in Thessalonica, the apostles, and the Lord Jesus Christ all experienced affliction in one form or another for receiving the word, but they also had the joy of the Holy Spirit, for they had heaven’s approval.
