Godliness means to be devoutly religious. What is the heart of godliness? What moves a person to devote themselves to God? Paul said this,

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:

God was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.
(1 Timothy 3.16) 

God left heaven and lived among us, taking on a body as we have. He was justified in the Spirit, angels saw Him, His name has been preached to the nations, the world believed on Him, and finally, He went up into heaven. Knowing and believing these things moves a person to devote a life to God.
