How the Lord blessed Asher

Genesis Bible Background

01.21.2018 – Old Testament: Gen 49.20

To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 49–50 on January 21, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

Asher was a son of Jacob, making him a grandson of Isaac, and a great-grandson of Abraham. Therefore, the tribe of Asher would experience blessings and bless others,

“Bread from Asher shall be rich,
And he shall yield royal dainties.”
(Genesis 49.20)

Asher would find the blessings of farming, and that tribe and the rest of Israel, especially royalty, could enjoy what the Lord had given to Asher.

We do not hear much about Asher in the Bible, but the Lord blessed the tribe that it might bless Israel and that Israel might remain a people until it could bring the promised blessing (Genesis 12.3) into the world for the world.

  • Has the Lord blessed you?
  • Are you in turn blessing others?
