Do you teach yourself?

Romans Bible Background

08.01.2018 – New Testament: Rom 2.21–23

To read the Bible in a year, read Romans 2 on August 1, In the year of our Lord 2018

We often think about what others need to know, but do we teach ourselves the same truths?

You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law? (Romans 2.21–23).

The Bible condemns hypocrisy strongly. Do not be a hypocrite. In this text, Paul spoke to the Jews, but he could have easily spoken to any believer in God, meaning Christians. Does our salvation by grace save us from hypocrisy? Not if we do not repent.

Questions:

  • Do you want your preacher to practice what he preaches?
  • Do you practice what you preach?
