10.05.2018 – New Testament: Phi 1.16–18
To read the Bible in a year, read Philippians 1 on October 5, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
Paul rejoiced that Christ was preached by others while Paul was in prison. Even if their motives were not right, as long as they preached Christ, the apostle was happy:
The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice (Philippians 1.16–18).
Paul did not mean that he rejoiced when others taught false doctrine just so long as the name of Christ was mentioned, no, these people preached the truth, but some of them did it to cause more trouble for him.
Questions:
- When you do teach others, why do you do it?
- Are you glad to see others teach?
