01.11.2019 – New Testament: Matt 9.23–24
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 9.18–38 on January 11, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
Jesus looked like an ordinary man, but if the people had watched Him carefully while He lived on earth, seeing His works and hearing His words, they would have realized that He was much more than a man. Consider what some people did when He announced that a dead girl was not dead:
When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him (Matthew 9.23–24).
They ridiculed the Man who was about to raise this girl from the dead. However, the ruler of the synagogue knew that Jesus had the power to raise the dead, that is why the ruler summoned Jesus. Yet, the others obviously did not think that way, for they ridiculed Him. Let us hope that they repented later.
Questions:
- Have you ridiculed someone and later regretted it?
- What has Jesus done for you?
