02.18.2019 – New Testament: Mark 2.18
To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 2 on February 18, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
Fasting among the religions of the world is common, but there are some who do not fast. The disciples of Jesus did not fast during His ministry and it caught the attention of others:
The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, “Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” (Mark 2.18).
Why do you think they were not fasting? (Hint: Keep reading the text and you will see why.) Do you fast? If not, why not? If so, why? Why would anyone fast?
When you fast you will discover how much time and effort we put into food. It is amazing. You will suddenly find much more time available. However, I recommend that you stay away from the kitchen and stores and other people who are eating. You will have to pray often for self-control, and when you do, the Lord will help.
Questions:
- What did you gain by fasting?
- What did you learn?
