04.17.2019 – New Testament: Luke 16.13
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 16.1–18 on April 17, In the year of our Lord 2019
By Don Ruhl
Our God is a jealous God, demanding exclusive loyalty. He will not share our worship with anyone or anything. Therefore, Jesus taught,
“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon”
– Luke 16.13
Most people try to persuade themselves that they can serve both, but it does not work, because God demands exclusive loyalty, whereas money does not. Money is happy for us to try to serve God also. Since God requires exclusive loyalty and money does not, then our full loyalty eventually shifts over to money. That will lead a person to lose his soul.
Questions:
- Which do you serve: God? or Money? or Something else?
- Does God give you money or does money give you God?
