To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 15.22–41 on July 9, In the year of our Lord 2019
By Don Ruhl
The church encountered a massive problem with some teachers who wanted the Gentiles to receive circumcision. After a meeting about this matter, the leaders in the church resolved the issue and sent letters out to the congregations, telling them that they did not have to receive circumcision to receive God’s grace for salvation. Then Luke informs us of what they did next:
So when they were sent off, they came to Antioch; and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the letter. When they had read it, they rejoiced over its encouragement (Acts 15.30–31).
The letter had encouraged them to avoid certain sins, and that if they kept themselves from those things, they would do well. So they did not have to start cutting on their bodies! That obviously, made them very happy.
Questions:
- What do you like about Christianity?
- How are you doing in overcoming your sins?
- Have you written a letter to a fellow Christians to encourage him?
