Old Testament: Exo 19.17–19
To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 19–21 on January 29, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
Moses brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, across the Red Sea, and finally to the foot of Mount Sinai:
And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly. And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice.
– Exodus 19.17–19
Reading this helps us to see why Israel thought highly of Moses. He brought them to the very spot where they could meet with God and see displays of His power just for being there. Then imagine what happened next. While standing at the foot of the mountain, Moses spoke to God and God answered him back.
See the mountain engulfed in smoke, the mountain quaking, and a trumpet sound getting louder and louder! Wow, what an experience!
